Top-Drive Cementing Head
Top-Drive Cementing Head
The top-drive cementing head (TDCH) enables the release of setting balls and drill pipe darts without breaking the connection in the running string. The TDCH can be preloaded with a setting ball, drill pipe dart, or full-length wiper plugs and racked in the derrick for convenient access.
Circulation through the TDCH can be performed using either the top drive or a cement unit while the ball and dart are loaded. When circulating through the side bore and/or bypassing dart, the maximum pump rate is 15 bbl/min. After the plugs have been released and the bypass valves are closed, circulation through the main bore allows a maximum pump rate of 30 bbl/min.
Features
- The TDCH is designed with high tensile, torque, and pressure ratings, allowing it to withstand conditions that exceed the capabilities of conventional cementing heads.
- It enables circulation through the top drive and/or cement line, even when fully loaded, streamlining operations and reducing rig time during use.
- The integral swivel allows the drill string to be rotated throughout cementing operations, promoting improved mud displacement and a superior cement bond.
