Straddle Packer

Straddle Packer

The Straddle Packer is composed of a modified Snap set-II Packer combined with an AS-III Packer. It is designed for selectively treating short intervals of casing perforations to achieve uniform breakdown of the formation. The treatment span is determined by the spacing between the two sets of packing elements and is adjustable to any length down to a minimum of eighteen (18) inches.

The lower end of the Straddle Packer is plugged using an Equalizing Standing Valve or a similar device. A Spot Control Valve or Acid Valve may be installed above the packer to regulate tubing hydrostatic pressure across the perforations and to retain acid within the tubing while repositioning the packer to the next interval.

Once positioned across the lowermost perforation, the Straddle Packer is set and the interval is treated. A straight pick-up of the tubing releases the packer, allowing it to be moved to the next perforation. The setting procedure is then repeated for subsequent treatments.
