The Landing Collar is used when setting the liner hanger prior to cementing. A setting ball seats in the shear seat of the Liner Hanger Assembly , allowing pressure to be applied to set the hanger slips. Once the hanger is set, increasing the pressure shears the ball seat, restoring full circulation for cementing operations. The shear rating of the ball seat is adjustable to suit the requirements of the hanger.

The HLC features a latch with a non-rotational mechanism that accepts, locks, and seals the Liner Wiper Plug upon completion of cementing.
