Casing Cementing Head

Casing Cementing Head

The Cementing Head is used during the second stage of the well construction cycle to cement the annular space between the casing and the borehole. It connects the cementing truck pumps to the casing string and provides access for the insertion of cementing plugs. Cementing Heads are available in sizes ranging from 4-1/2 in. to 20 in., with working pressures from 2,000 psi to 15,000 psi.

Cementing head size and working pressure are inversely related—smaller sizes are designed for higher working pressures, while larger sizes operate at lower pressures. Cementing heads are available in single-plug and double-plug configurations. The caps are equipped with Acme threads or quick-lock mechanisms and are fitted with a swivel chain assembly. Double-plug cementing heads feature a three-valve manifold and two plunger assemblies. All cementing heads are manufactured from solid forged alloy steel (AISI 4130/4140/4145 or equivalent) and are fully heat treated to ensure strength and durability

Cementing Operations

The Cementing Head is designed to perform both single-stage and double-stage cementing operations and is equipped with the following features:

➤ Equipped with a manifold featuring low-torque plug valves.

➤ Designed to provide continuous, uninterrupted operation.

➤ The plug container accommodates one or two plugs (top and bottom).

➤ Double-plug containers are fitted with a three-inlet torque valve manifold and two plunger assemblies.

➤ Plug container lengths are designed to accommodate standard plug sizes.

➤ The cap is available with ACME threads and is fitted with a lifting chain for handling the plug container.
